A moving-home cleaning checklist for both addresses

Organise moving-home cleaning into three lists: the home you are leaving, the spaces you need first in the new home and tasks that can wait until you are settled. Assign owners, keep basic cleaning supplies accessible and check which responsibilities are yours before scheduling work.
Moving produces two sets of chores at once. You still need a functioning kitchen and bathroom where you live, while the next home needs attention before boxes cover the floor. A single list hides that sequence. Separate the addresses and make the first night usable before trying to finish every room.
Confirm what you need to do at each address
Write down the handover dates and check your own agreement or instructions for cleaning responsibilities. Ask the relevant person about anything unclear instead of relying on a generic moving checklist. Note which appliances, cupboards or furnishings belong to each home so they do not disappear from the plan.
Then divide work by access. A cupboard can be cleaned once emptied. Floors are easier after boxes and furniture have moved. Keep tasks that require specialist work separate from ordinary cleaning and arrange appropriate help where needed.
Clean the old home in the order it becomes empty
Start with areas you no longer need, such as emptied shelves or a spare room. Leave daily-use surfaces until closer to departure. As each space is finished, avoid using it as the new storage spot for unsorted belongings. Keep a small bag for the final cleaning cloths and supplies.
On the last visit, work through a room-by-room check rather than relying on memory. Look inside cupboards, behind doors and in storage areas you use infrequently. Record any handover information you are asked to provide without assuming that photographs replace the agreed process.

Prepare the first-night spaces in the new home
Keep soap, a towel, toilet paper, bin bags, suitable cleaning cloths, bedding and essential kitchen items in an accessible box. Label it clearly and keep it with the items you can reach on arrival. A supply packed somewhere in the van cannot help with an immediate spill.
Before filling cupboards, inspect and clean the spaces you will use first: bathroom fixtures, food preparation surfaces and the sleeping area. Follow the care instructions for unfamiliar materials and appliances. Do not make unpacking every decorative object a condition for having a usable bedroom.
Turn the remaining work into a first-week plan
Choose a short sequence for the following days: finish kitchen storage, organise laundry, clear the main walking routes and learn the new home's waste collection arrangements. Assign each task to someone if you are moving together. Keep administrative moving tasks in the system you already use for those.
Create the recurring home-care plan only after checking the rooms and equipment you actually have. The old home's tasks may not fit the new one. Start with essentials, then add less frequent maintenance as you find the manuals and understand how often each appliance is used.
